openSAP, SAP’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provider, has been shortlisted for the Learning and Performance Institute’s Innovation in Learning Award. The achievement comes just six months after openSAP launched its first course on May 27, 2013.

The Learning and Performance Institute hosts the annual Learning Awards, the Learning & Development sector’s annual celebration of outstanding achievement, best practice and excellence in corporate learning and performance. As openSAP’s first year comes to a close, recognition from peers within the corporate learning industry is just one example of how SAP is truly a business innovation company across all of our offerings.

SAP is one of the first companies to provide MOOC learning and openSAP provides courses on key SAP topics to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Courses run for a specified time frame with units released on a weekly basis and assignment deadlines, avoiding procrastination and encouraging learners to complete their course in an appropriate time frame.

To date openSAP has over 75,000 registered learners on the platform with over 180,000 registrants for their first five courses. One course alone Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA attracted over 70,000 participants in two offerings. Over 84% of participants in this course were external SAP, demonstrating the wide appeal of SAP knowledge.

openSAP has previously received great feedback from participants and internally at SAP. SAP co-founder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Hasso Plattner said "It is great to see that this new form of education in IT is taking off. The breakthrough for me is the interaction between the students. We could not have trained that many people in this short period of time. The real-time speed of HANA and the lifestyle of the Facebook generation fit perfectly."

The Learning Awards 2014 will take place on February 6, 2014 but with or without the prestigious award, openSAP will continue to provide high quality content on key SAP topics across the SAP Ecosystem and beyond.
