SAP TechEd season is coming closer and with all that is going on in the technology space these days it makes more sense than ever to attend and brush up on your development skills. One of the areas that sees a lot of traction lately is cloud computing and from a developer's perspective platform-as-a-service (PaaS) is probably the most interesting aspect of cloud as it tremendously eases and speeds up the software development process.
For those who haven't heard about it yet, SAP is offering a cloud platform by the name of SAP HANA Cloud Platform:
"SAP HANA Cloud Platform is SAP’s in-memory cloud platform, our Platform-as-a-Service offering enabling developers to build, extend, and run applications in the cloud. It provides developers a set of application and database services and features native, integrated and open developer experiences."

In essence, the SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP) provides a standardized development and runtime environment based on SAP HANA that allows developers to focus on the business use-case without having to worry about lower-level infrastructure concerns such as scalability and security. Wether you're use-case is extending onPremise applications or SaaS (e.g. extending SuccessFactor's Employee Central), integration scenarios or developing brand new applications, the platform provides the necessary capabilities to support you (see below.)
