Time to for TechEd talk again...why should you consider ASUG Pre-Conference sessions?  They include hours of dedicated time on one topic.  I've been attending ASUG pre-conference sessions myself since 2007 and I've enjoyed it every single time.

Could you get this content in a hands-on session instead?  Possibly, and perhaps not.  Some people (including me) attend the pre-conference sessions so they can use their two hands-on sessions for other topics of interest.

Here are the details:

When: Monday, October 21, 2013

Where: Las Vegas

Where to register: http://www.asugonline.com/sap-teched/pre-conference-seminars/

Many SAP Mentors are conducting pre-conference sessions, listed below:

SAP HANA Cloud Platform - a Guided Tour

SAP Mentors matthias.steiner and yariv.zur are conducting this full day pre-conference session

Full-Day Seminar

Monday, October 21, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

US$495 ASUG member; US$595 ASUG non-member

Abstract: Companies small and large are facing the need to adopt to changing market needs and roll out innovative solutions faster than ever. At the same time, IT budgets are massively reduced and the technical debt of legacy systems slow down the adoption of new applications built or bought. This problem space is addressed by cloud-based Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings, such as the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. By providing a standard-based development and runtime environment based on SAP’s in-memory technology, development can focus on the business use-case without having to worry about lower-level infrastructure concerns such as scalability and security. The platform provides all that is needed to build state-of-the-art applications such as portal capabilities, mobile support, integration services, etc. In this session, we will explain and demonstrate the full set of capabilities of the platform and provide you with direct access to product management to provide feedback and ask questions.

Attendees will get a full overview of the complete SAP HANA Cloud Platform and its capabilities, such as:

• SAP HANA Cloud Integration Services

• SAP HANA Cloud Portal

• SAP Mobile Platform Cloud Edition

Full-Day Seminar

Monday, October 21, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

US$595 ASUG member; US$695 ASUG non-member

This Pre-conference session is a full-day seminar where all attendees attend the morning session and choose which afternoon session they would like to attend based on their technical background. Attendees will get a copy of the content for all sessions.

Morning Overview and Modeling Session :

The morning half-day session will provide a comprehensive introduction to SAP HANA and a hands-on modeling section focusing on needs of the technical administrator and modeling/developer audiences. In the overview part of the session we will discuss the technologies, components and deployment options of SAP HANA. In the modeling hands-on section we will introduce you to the various types of HANA modeling views, including Attribute, Analytical, and Calculation views, which can be used to build very complex data flows at the database level.

Afternoon Developer Session Track:

In this hands-on workshop we will introduce various techniques for building applications on SAP HANA. We will explore OData and server-side javascript services and show you how to push down data centric processing logic into the HANA database via the usage of SQLScript. Explore both major application server layers - ABAP and HANA Application Services and how they can each be used to build or adapt applications to leverage the power of HANA.

Hands-on exercises for:

•          Writing SQLScript

•          Adapting existing ABAP reports to use HANA secondary database connection

•          Build new ABAP applications using HANA specific tools (based in NetWeaver 7.40)

•          Create lightweight REST services directly in HANA using HANA Application Services

•          Apply a SAPUI5 based HTML5 user interface upon these HANA services and applications

Afternoon SAP HANA Database and System Administration Session Track:

The Database and System Administration session will cover relevant topics on SAP HANA in the data center and will prepare database administrators to support SAP HANA in mission critical environments. We will have detailed discussions on important SAP HANA topics such as landscape planning considerations, cluster setup and operations, lifecycle management and monitoring, as well as alternatives for high availability. In addition, topics such as disaster tolerance, backup and recovery, encryption, and appliance configuration will be covered to help prepare administrators ensure they are prepared for their SAP HANA implementation.

Speakers: Thomas Jung, Rich Heilman (SAP)
