It has been nearly 2 years since the FAA approved an iPad-based electronic charts app as a replacement for paper charts pilots have always been required to carry. Replacing a 45 pound back of charts with a 1.4 pound iPad saves weight and fuel. United Airline alone saves 365,000 gallons of fuel per year since it’s pilots adopted mobile electronic charts.

Today, one in four consumers in the US has both a smartphone and a tablet. The average information worker now uses more than 2 mobile devices in the workplace. But, how are enterprises using this mobile revolution to their benefit?

Most organizations reach fully integrated mobile operations in three distinct phases:

· Extend – Companies move beyond basic mobile functions like email and calendaring to find ways to mobilize existing business applications.

· Accelerate – Companies mobilize key processes and change the way workers engage with each other and with customers.

· Transform – Companies use mobile technology to truly transform and redefine fundamental operations by taking advantage of analytics and contextual data.

Business transformation is the ultimate result of a well implemented mobility strategy, one in which the mobility not only provides access to real time business intelligence, but also contributes real-time information that critical business processes depend on.

In her e-book, industry expert Maribel Lopez states: “Mobility provides workforce productivity gains, real-time decision-making with accuracy, and improvements in customers service. Companies that embrace mobility and contextual services are able to reshape business models to create sustainable business advantage.”

Learn which phase of mobility adoption your organization falls in right now and what steps you need to take to fully leverage this ubiquitous trend. Get access to the interactive e-book here.

Maribel Lopez will also be present at SAPPHIRE 2013 in Orlando. Don't miss her session to discuss this topic in person. Stay tuned for more details on Twitter @SAPMobile
