SAPPHIRE NOW 2019, SAP’s premier conference, is taking place this week. As usual, there are a lot of announcements and news all around. This blog post is meant to guide you through the most important news in the area of extending SAP solutions.

SAP Cloud Platform is the best place to extend SAP solutions. This is even more true with these recent announcements. If you are building applications on SAP Cloud Platform that access other SAP solutions such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP C/4HANA, or others, read on below to get the latest and greatest about topics relevant for you: the announcement of the SAP Cloud SDK and the launch of SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory.

Announcing the SAP Cloud SDK

There are also exciting news to share for all Java and JavaScript developers who build extensions to SAP solutions or otherwise access SAP services from their Cloud-native application. This week, SAP has announced the SAP Cloud SDK as a comprehensive toolset for developing and delivering extensions of many solutions across SAP’s portfolio. As the next evolution of what you may know under the name SAP S/4HANA Cloud SDK, the SAP Cloud SDK first consists of a set of libraries for accessing many SAP solutions from your Java and JavaScript code. Second, the SDK contains tools and a continuous delivery pipeline that support you end-to-end when developing extensions on SAP Cloud Platform.

With this, you can leverage the same capabilities which make accessing SAP S/4HANA Cloud delightful also when accessing many other SAP solutions such as SAP SuccessFactors or SAP C/4HANA. Read all about it in the news article and the blog post with additional details.

The team behind the SAP (S/4HANA) Cloud SDK already a few weeks back released the SAP Cloud SDK for JavaScript. This variant of the SDK brings the straightforward and delightful access to OData services, including authentication and connectivity, known from the Java variant to the JavaScript and TypeScript ecosystem. For those who have missed the announcement, take a look at this blog post.

The SAP Cloud SDK goes hand-in-hand with the second big announcement, the launch of SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory.

The SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory

The SAP Cloud Platform provides developers with great capabilities to develop, run and manage side-by-side extensions to SAP solutions. With the SAP Cloud Platform Extension Factory new capabilities are now available on SAP Cloud Platform to make it easier for developers to create extensions for the Intelligent Enterprise.

You do not have to buy the Extension Factory. Instead, it is fully integrated into SAP Cloud Platform and provides a central place to register and manage your SAP solutions. Using Extension Factory, you connect these solutions once to your SAP Cloud Platform global account. In addition, it helps developers to discover the APIs and events of those registered systems in a consistent manner so that they can easily develop event-triggered extensions and applications and access the APIs of all the systems they need.

By SAPPHIRE NOW 2019, Extension Factory makes it possible to add SAP S/4HANA Cloud systems to SAP Cloud Platform in this simplified manner. Over time more and more SAP solutions will be supported, too. Get more information about the Extension Factory in a separate blog post.
