Dec 8th 2012 – SAP Hyderabad community participated in its first ever SAP Inside Track event. The planning for the event started a month ago with the initiative of SAP Mentors - krishnakumar.ramamoorthy3and dipankar.saha3.

The organizing team created a SAP Wiki Link for the registration and reached out to our network in all forms possible - Word of mouth, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Posters to drive maximum participation. In parallel, we started reaching out to our participants for Presentations. We received close to 50 topic nominations for presenting at SIT Hyderabad. Given the active participation from the Functional community, we decided to have separate tracks for Functional and Technical participants with ten presentations (all live) per track for the final event.

On the day of the event, our first participant registered at 8.00AM.

Our first presentation started in Functional and Technical tracks at 9.30 AM.

The technical track opened with session on Solution Manager 7.1 which talked about its key enhancements, tools to support implementation and administration. This was followed by a session on platform independent data consumption services through SAP NetWeaver Gateway, commonly called as OData services. The excitement was around the topic of SAP HANA, SLT and how ABAP applications can be built to access HANA. The prize winner was the presentation on vCloud Director by Sindhu and Nitya where they explained and showed how servers can be set-up in the cloud with speed, ease and efficiency. You can watch the videos for this presentation at these links.

The functional track opened with session on Managing Supplier Relationships using SAP SLC 1.0. The session was followed by several topics such as Spend Performance, Service Parts Management, and Order Engineering Workbench. The day concluded with the presentation on implementing insurance claims using BRF Plus. The functional track almost unanimously selected Nareen’s presentation on Linear Asset Management as the winner.

Any event cannot be successfully if there is not enough audience and also volunteers to ensure its smooth execution. Hyderabad location had a record participation of 96 members which may be one of the highest in any SIT event across the world. There was active participation from the audience throughout the event even though it was a Saturday – questions were asked on every topic and discussions continued in the corridors during snacks and the lunch break. The idea of two separate tracks for functional and technical teams also helped people to have deeper discussions in their area of expertise. Both the tracks came together for the demo on SAP HANA. The demo showcasing the power of HANA (2 seconds for searching 10 Million records) was a big hit among the audience.

Last but not the least, the volunteers’ unmatched contribution ensured that all participants were smoothly inducted into the event and had a great learning experience throughout the eight hours duration of the event.

All in all, it was an amazing experience and a great learning for me and my team. Going forward, we also like to incorporate the participants’ feedback on driving more diverse content for presentations and ensuring that the agenda is finalized well in advance.

I would like to thank krishnakumar.ramamoorthy3 and dipankar.saha3for their support and guidance in making SITHYD2012 a grand success. The success of the event has definitely boosted our enthusiasm to host more such community events in Hyderabad – so please watch out for this space.
