In this blog series we are trying to lay out the features in the products which enable these products to be finance owned and managed. Refer Finance owned and managed SAP CPM – Part I and Finance owned and managed SAP CPM – Part II also and now we are covering more here:

 Wizard driven interface

Business users would love to look at user interfaces that allow them to perform tasks through a guided procedure. Business users will never like to go to 100 places to build anything and this is the case for administration. This is a very important aspect in enabling finance users to administer the applications. It is very difficult convincing the business or finance users to administer their application unless the user interface is intuitive and designed with guided procedures.

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation(BPC) offers wizard driven (guided) interface to administer various elements such as Business Process Flows,Security etc. The wizards take the users step by step with appropriate validation built in at each step, to ensure all the required information are provided by the users. Please find below couple of screeshots of wizard driven interfaces in SAP BPC

 Business Error messages for troubleshooting

The above does not sound familiar at all to many. Every business user comes across error messages that are totally technical and they become showstoppers as the users do not know what to do. Result, they pick up the phone and call IT. Now if a set of solutions are to be administered by finance or business users like in case of CPM, it is extremely important that the messages can be understood by business users. This may sound very basic or simple but very few products provide effective error messages that can be interpreted by business users.

This is where SAP BPC scores very well. The error messages have been constructed very effectively to make sure finance or business users can understand them and trouble shoot them to take action. A very effective error log gets created for each of the administration task. The log is populated with both information and error messages. Please find a screenshot of how the log appears to the business users
