There has always been a need to cost out individual operations during maintenance while tracking the aggregated total for the entire order.  Up until ECC 6.0 EhP4, this was not possible.  The costs for the work order can only be track as an aggregated total.  As of ECC 6.0 EhP5, it is possible to track costs at the operation level.  Different cost account assignments can be assigned to individual operations within a maintenance order.  With operation level costing, an order can post each operation’s cost to different costing objects, i.e. WBS elements, cost center, material, etc.  The account assignment details for an operation are shown on the Account Assignment tab of the Operation Detail view. Sub-operation account assignment values are inherited from the superior operation.  Defaulting for operation takes place when a new operation is created. The operation takes on the order header values as defaults.

Operation Level costing function must be activated within SAP Customizing (IMG).

SAP Customizing → Plant Maintenance and Customer Service → Maintenance and Service Processing → Maintenance and Service Orders →Functions and Settings for Order Types → Costs at Operation Level

This topic is relevant to certification.  Additional information on Operation Level Costing and detailed customizing steps for maintenance order can be found in SAP Education training class PLM315 – Maintenance Processing:  Operational Functions and DPM65 – Enhancements in EAM SAP ECC 6.0 EhP 1 -5 and online training course DPM65r.
