Some of you might know that you can suggest new kinds of drinks to Starbucks on their website mystarbucksidea.com

If not I recommend you have a look at all the cool but also sometimes crazy ideas Starbucks customers are posting there.

Overall this kind of customer engagement is called “co-innovation” – innovating together with customers. Something that SAP has been good at from the beginning: The first software of SAP was basically developed together with customers and the requirements of customers always influenced future releases.

For our new cloud solutions for large enterprises co-innovation was one of the most important influencing factors. You can read a lot more about this in the following blogs if you like:

What’s the co-innovation story for Business ByDesign?

From the very beginning we involved midsized companies and validated scenarios, interaction models and user interfaces. But compared to all the new OnDemand products of SAP today we were in stealth mode back in that days. That meant that we were not allowed to talk about what exactly we – at SAP – were about to do with this product. All these validation sessions were therefore organized by external market research firms which was extremely expensive. Because the participants were not allowed to know that they were talking to SAP employees, there was also no way for us to interact with them on an ongoing basis to validate the changes that we did based on earlier validations.

In a nutshell: It wasn’t really a co-innovation with customers.

Now that ByDesign - the most complete ERP solution in the coud - is available worldwide and has more than 500 customer, we decided to open the doors and let customers directly participate in the decision process of what features to add next.

Every user of a customer can now sign up for the new Business ByDesign ideas forum, share their ideas and requirements, discuss the ideas of others and vote for them.

The ideas with the most votes will be implemented in the next development cycle.

So if you are a ByDesign customer, go ahead and sign up here today.

I'm looking forward to an open discussion and lots of innovative ideas.

And hey, after you signed up on the ideas forum, get yourself a coffee at Starbucks and enjoy your weekend.
