SAP has joined the ISO 20022 Common Global Implementation (CGI) Initiative as a contributing member.  The CGI is a collection of Banks, Corporates, Software Vendors, and Consultants who have come together to progress various corporate-to-bank implementation topics in the payments domain. The goal is to simplify and promote wider implementation of ISO 20022 version 3 transactions.  The major work effort is to create common global implementation templates for ISO 20022 Corporate to Bank transactions. These implementation templates provide clear guidance on the use of the ISO XML Schema, to include which fields are used for which payment types, special use instructions to better explain what the fields are to contain, and local country rules based on underlying local market requirements.

CGI work is being conducted by three working groups – WG1 Credit Transfer & Status Report, WG2 Account Reporting, and WG3 Direct Debit. WG1 is working on CustomerCreditTransferInitiation and CustomerPaymentStatusReport. WG2 is working on BankToCustomerAccountReport, BankToCustomerStatement, and BankToCustomerDebitCreditNotification. WG3 is working on CustomerDirectDebitInitiation.

SAP will engage in all three CGI work groups. In addition, SAP has initiated an SAP Community Definition Group (CDG) that consists of SAP and CDG members.  The SAP CDG is actively engaged in developing maps between the CGI templates and SAP internal data fields. These maps will be made publicly available.  These maps are a precursor to SAP implementing one or more of the CGI implementation templates in the appropriate SAP solution – to include Payment Medium Workbench, Bank Communication Manager, and Suite as appropriate. As implementation and availability plans are finalized additional information will be provided.
