Hello all,

I assume that most of you, if not all of you, are already familiar with the Activity Data Collector capability which is available for few years now as part of the SAP NetWeaver Portal. As you know, ADC (=Activity Data Collector) traces user and content activity, monitor portal requests and maintain details of each request, such as the logged-on user, processing time, and the iView requested. ADC provides the detailed data used to create tailored activity reports for your own needs.

For more information please refer to the following How to use the Activity Data Collector written by my colleague Winfried Wenisch.

So what is new with SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3?

With SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 we have significantly simplified the ADC configuration process by providing an easy and very intuitive configuration wizard.

Under System Administration > Content Statistics > Data Collector Configuration you will find the new UI for configuring the Activity Data Collector.

In the first screen you will find the UI for basic configuration of ADC. Turn OnOff, set filesdirectly name, etc.

In the second screen, under the Collector Files tab, you will find the collector files you have already configured and can configure new files.

  • Add File: add a file to collect the monitoring data
  • Remove: remove a file
  • Add Data Type: add a “column” of data to the monitoring file
  • Etc.

Lastly, these are the data types (user ID, iView name, PCD path, etc.) you can add to the monitoring file. As you can see, all the information required to analyze your portal is available for you. It is up to you to configure the files correctly to your needs…

That’s it for this time. As you can see, ADC is a very powerful tool to monitor your portal. With SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 it is even more easy and intuitive to configure. Enabling this feature and building the right reports will help you dramatically to improve the usability of your portal.

These steps and much more configuration details can be found on help.sap.com and in SAP Note 1517296.

As always, feel free to post your questions bellow.

Regards,

Aviad
