I have seen several reports lately that the hole in the ozone layer is closing. Remember this problem? In 1985, a hole was discovered in the Antarctic ozone layer and it was believed to be caused by man-made chemicals. Soon after, chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) became regulated and were mostly phased out by the late 90’s.  Some of the main uses of these chemicals were aerosol sprays, refrigerants, and industrial cleaners. At the time, it was thought to be too costly to find substitutes, but we have. And now there are indications that the ozone layer is repairing.

What an amazing example of human ingenuity! Our ability to invent new solutions to make our lives better or to fix the problems caused by our earlier inventions is incredible. We just have to decide that something is a problem and that we are going to solve it.
