In continuation to A Preview to SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.30 - Part 1 of this blog, here are some more key improvements and advantages in the SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.30 platform.

Better Tools for Troubleshooting

Almost all critical processes within the Data Orchestration Engine (DOE) are asynchronous. While DOE is busy managing the business data from the backend to the devices, calculating which devices need to get which data, processing the data uploaded by the devices, etc the Process Monitoring tool is the single tool to monitor all these processes and their statuses. More important processes like evaluation of distribution patterns based on any device attribute changes ,device addition etc can be monitored as part of Process Monitoring with 7.3 release. The vastly improved Message Monitoring tool can show multiple messages simultaneously, even if they belong to different data objects with minimal navigation across screens. Screen shots of view messages follows

Improved Device Management

Accidental deletion of a device can result in drastic business consequences because of the complete loss of productivity for the corresponding mobile user. Starting from NWM 7.30, deletion of devices can be controlled via a configuration by an administrator. When configured, deletion of a device has to be approved via the Approval Inbox.

Apart from this, any modifications to the logical receivers (devices) are logged . For example, any standard attributes like user addition or custom attributes like relocation of user from region to another that could cause a change in the data set for a device are logged and entire device history can be quickly accessed for each device.

Customizations and Flexibility

The newly introduced concept of ‘Reuse Distribution Model’ allows a partner / customer to enhance an existing Data Distribution Model to suit the customer requirements, while retaining the ability of getting application updates from SAP / partners. The newly introduced Dependency Administration tool allows to control the runtime enablement of dependencies without data model changes. It will also be possible to transport all DOE configurations to all systems in the landscape. This highly simplifies the process of configuring the mobile landscape.

Robustness and Reliability Improvements

NWM 7.30 introduces the concept of CDS Retention and Retrieval. This feature allows unused business data to be removed from the DOE system based on a defined criteria, thus helping in optimizing the performance of the system despite the huge transactional data load (resulting because of system being operational for a period of time). Any such deleted data can will be retrieved and updated automatically whenever the data changes in the backend. The newly introduced ‘DOE Pause and Resume’ functionality helps pause / resume all DOE processes, to enable system / application upgrades, even while allowing the backend to send updates to DOE and the devices to work seamlessly and synchronize with DOE – even during the system downtime.

Enhanced Security & logging for Mobile Client

In the context of multiple users working with a device, enhanced database password encryption is available for Mobile Client that ensures more secured way of storing business data in the device. It will also be possible to distinguish between users who changed the data in Mobile device and those who synchronize data from Mobile Client based on a configuration and this information is propagated till the Backend that could be used for auditing and logging purposes during operational phase.

In summary NetWeaver Mobile 7.30 brings to the customers the benefits in the areas Reliability, TCO reduction, Openness, Robustness and Security.
