With SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.30 (NWM) entering into ramp-up, it is time to see what the new version of the platform has to offer.
When it was released in 2007, SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.10 was completely re-architected and rewritten keeping in mind futuristic needs of enterprise mobility. For a year now, NWM 7.10 has also been the base version for the SAP-Sybase Co-Innovation Platform for Enterprise Mobility. With 80+ productive customers using NWM 7.10, and several partners actively building innovative solutions on the NWM platform, the primary goal of the NWM 7.30 release was to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), improve the robustness, reliability and scalability, enhance the enterprise readiness of the platform and offer a couple of much-needed features. Let us now look at some of the key highlights of the NWM 7.30 release.
Simplify Backend integration with Web Services & Backend Gateways
With a highly scalable and robust mobile middleware, it was a natural extension to allow business data to be consumed from non-SAP backend systems. Starting from NWM 7.30 release, it will be possible to consume business data from non-SAP backends using a new type of Backend Adapter called Web Service Adapter (while retaining DOE semantics). Thus, it enables building mobile applications that use business data from heterogeneous backends consisting of SAP and non-SAP enterprise information systems.
Web service adaptors that provide native support for integrating with back-end systems. In addition to natively integrating with BAPI wrappers, SAP NetWeaver Mobile can now integrate using Web services that are available in back-end systems.
Further, it is also possible to fetch data from multiple backends for the same data object using Backend Gateways.
Improved Intuitive Administration and Monitoring
This is one of the key improvements done in NWM 7.30. The entire administration and monitoring portal (NWMA) has been revamped to provide a more consistent, intuitive and improved user experience. Integrated quick helps are added to most tools to provide context-specific help. The administration and monitoring home pages are redesigned to provide a categorized list of tools for easier navigation. The navigation bar at the top of every screen always displays the path taken to reach to a particular tool and it is possible to navigate back to any previous tool without losing context.
