SAP Benchmarking is a hidden gem ...and one that that many customers do not realize is a free service that is available to SAP Customers around the world. It's easy to participating in, results are confidential and it is your chance to see how your organization measures up and what you can do to move your organization to new levels of performance.

Assessing the performance of processes and finding areas for improvement. If one were to look only internally, a company could compare business process performance over time. However, for a company which has shown improving performance trends over time, it can be difficult to know how much better their performance could be, unless they can compare their performance with that of other similar companies. Enter benchmarking. Benchmarking allows companies to compare their business performance to a set of comparable firms on an industry and company-size level. By answering a set of standard questions, your organization can gain valuable insights into their current performance levels and the areas for improvement.

SAP Benchmarking Program - History and Overview

The SAP Benchmarking program was piloted at the end of 2004 with America's SAP Users Group (ASUG), and rolled out broadly in September 2005, as a response to a request by the ASUG Board of Directors to better understand TCO and ROI associated with implementing SAP and operating SAP. Its mission is to be a forum for SAP customers to exchange metrics and best practices. The survey content is relevant for IT and Business audiences, and the IT sections of studies were designed for companies running on SAP. The studies are available on an ongoing basis, to allow for tracking of year over year improvement. The SAP Benchmarking program is strategic service to SAP customers, program participation continues free of charge for SAP customers.

What can you expect?

Participants of the SAP Benchmarking Program can expect a detailed benchmarking study of their business processes. Each report contains a scorecard on how the company is performing on SAP’s High Impact Strategies framework. The High Impact Strategies framework uses the generally accepted strategies that are believed to create the highest impact on the business value. These High Impact Strategies, in turn, are linked to process key performance indicators (KPIs) and best practice adoption. Using the scorecard, one can quickly evaluate a company’s performance with respect to these High Impact Strategies and make actionable recommendations on how to improve performance by focusing on the most impactful strategies through KPI improvement and best practice adoption. The SAP Benchmarking Program's databases contain more than 4,000 completed surveys from over 2,000 organizations.
