Maybe you have heard about the new product SAP NetWeaver Portal, enterprise workspaces (short: Enterprise Workspaces) already or you have seen a first demo from the labs at SAPPHIRE (see also SAP NetWeaver Portal – SAPPHIRE NOW Summary).

We are now entering the next phase with the start of the Ramp-Up process! But first of all:

What are Enterprise Workspaces about?

Enterprise Workspaces provide a flexible, intuitive environment on top of the SAP NetWeaver Portal, which allows business users to integrate, organize and use various content such as applications, reports, dashboards, web content and documents either from SAP or Non-SAP systems.
This environment provides two types of workspaces: personal and shared. Users can organize content for their own purposes in a personal workspace, or share the content with a team or group of colleagues in a shared workspace.

The initial and prime goal of Enterprise Workspaces is to enable quick and easy re-combination of existing corporate assets, with emphasis on structured content such as reports or applications.
All of that is done using a state-of-the-art user-experience and providing a self-service approach for the end-users.
Although users can collaborate around content Enterprise Workspaces are not targeting the people collaboration or groupware alike solutions but allow of course the easy integration of services.

What might be also interesting for you is that it is implemented on top of the 7.0 codeline: It is an add-on to SAP NW Portal 7.0 EhP1, SP5.
