Enterprise Services for SAP Patient Management
The end of 2008 is already in sight and before many of us depart to their well deserved holidays I'd like to share some insight on the healthcare-specific ES Bundles we deliver as part of the 2008 year-end shipment (technically speaking EhP4 of SAP ERP 6.0). As described previously, we have defined a couple of ES Bundles specifically for Healthcare some time ago and during this definition and development process many people inside and outside SAP gave us valuable feedback on our initial thoughts.
Co-Innovation in the Enterprise Services Community
At this point let me express my deep appreciation to all members of the Enterprise Services Community who helped us at different stages of the development process. A very special thank you goes to the most active members of the working group Patient Administration V2, Markus Rathmayer and Andreas Ascher (Meierhofer AG), who were the first "test consumers" of our services and gave us also valuable feedback on the documentation. I shall not forget to mention Andreas Ascher's SDN article on a specific solution for .NET based service consumers which was also an outcome of PCDG 52, how we called this work group officially.

For your convenience I have provided the direct links to the ES Workplace documentation for each of the service operations. Please note that in addition to that, many of you might find the business object information useful, as it contains important information on the service interface structure. For example, you will learn about the relation between a (maybe well-known, though typically not self-explaning) back-end data element and the corresponding element of the service interface.
Here are some examples:
- the element ID of the business object Patient identifies the patient, in SAP Patient Management this information is stored in NPAT-PATNR
- the element BirthPlaceName of the Common node of the business object Patient represents the patient's place of birth, in SAP Patient Management the corresponding field is NPAT-GBORT
So I encourage you to have a look at the following business objects: Patient, Patient Encounter, Billing Patient Encounter Group, Medical Activity.
Also, have a look at the Configuration Guide in our Enterprise Services Wiki. Here you will find a description of pre-requisites and all necessary configuration steps - we of course appreciate your comments and/or useful extensions.
What's next?
After the holidays the Industry Solution Management team will provide you with more information how the current set of SAP Patient Management services can be used to set up an end-to-end IHE scenario. At the same time we are already engaging with customers, who want to use the EhP4 services. Last but not least, we will also consider started creating a demo scenario leveraging SAP BPM along with our services. So look forward to 2009 and stay with us!
