The summer on the northern hemisphere comes to an end. Most holidays are spent and the year is getting to its end. So, some of us started to look forward. This happened also in the energy sector. Two articles in business week stress this topic with remarkable complementary considerations: hydrogen provisioning network in Europe and bio-fuel in Africa are the topics.

It's unclear whether Ike , or OPEC cut in production, or the seasonal fall, or other reasons put a focus on our energy demand and alternative sourcing. Business week newsletter today points to the European parliament decisions to call a roll-out of a p...  The interesting part of that story comes at the end. The consideration regarding carbon-footprint has included the production of hydrogen as well. The result is impressive. So we need other sources to produce hydrogen.

The other story is the bio-mass continuation story. Now with a version covering Africa. Experts in this topic know about the competition between bio-mass and food production. The conclusions (biomass isn't an alternative energy source without major risk elements) are global and differ only in the size and related impacts. The story in business week is a big surprise. That story talks about "unused" land, low-price renting prices for land, promises to invest in infrastructure, and a bunch of strange attitudes by western companies. But the unbelievable part of the story is the impression, that "unused land" can produce bio-mass. Clear, the source in question is water.

Why do we optimize sub-systems and neglecting the interactions with the other parts of our Earth?

Kind regards Paul
