As we recently added ~ 20 forums just for the Business Objects products and we are constantly adding new forums for various other traget groups and new products and releases, it is time to think about the next evoltion. The current proposal is designed to improve the findability by adjusting the structure to target audiences and more coarse granular topics.
As this will impact your way thru the forums we would like to get your input upfront, before we actually implement all the changes.
Our forum software is able to be shown in levels, we have them currently showing the forums plus the 1st level categories. Hence you get a very large list of forums when you come to the "forum homepage".
Alternative A is keep it as it is and do not add another category:

Alternative B is to add another category ontop and move the forums into the background. To visualize this I did a screenshot of the current ICC UI, with ICC being the 'new' toplevel category and General Solutions, .... being the category below.
You would have to open such a category like 'General Questions' to see the forums:
