The fourth installment of the 360° perspective on enterprise service provisioning and consumption blog series guides you, as customers or partners, through the process of installing and configuring SAP's Composition Environment 7.1 with corresponding Enterprise Services Repository. All major installation steps will be shown in detail, along with useful tricks and tips to support your installation.

 

This blog series in general describes how to reengineer "existing offerings into a set of well-governed, harmonized and technology-agnostic enterprise services", to ultimately consume these. Attached screencam shows the entire installation and configuration procedure. The following provides the correlated storyboard.

 

Screencam Storyboard: Installing and Configuring SAP Composition Environment 7.1 with ESR

 

1. Network setup (optional)

  • Installing and configuring a Microsoft loopback adapter
  • Modifying the host file for proper loopback of localhost

Remark: This ensures a continuously ‘connected' network interface, which is required for proper operation.

 

2. Installing CE 7.1 with MaxDB

  • Installing the server
  • Checking the requirements and details of the installation
  • Starting the server and login

 

3. License key + Documentation

  • Showing the default license; valid for four weeks.
  • Informing about permanent license
  • Obtaining and installing a permanent license (should be done asap after installation)

 

4. Installing ESR for CE 7.1

  • Showing the ESR installation guide
  • Installing the Enterprise Services Repository
  • Configuring the ESR with wizards (SLD setup, services registry setup, ESR in CE Sstup)
  • Preparing Java installation

 

5. Installing the Java Runtime                 

  • Navigating to Sun's Homepage
  • Downloading and installing the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (currently v6 update 3)

 

6. Starting the Enterprise Services Repository

  • Start the ESR and login in with 'ESRAdmin' (http://server:port/rep)
  • Choose respective profile (e.g. "Service Definition")
  • ESR opens up for the first time and UI unveils (see below)

Having downloaded the necessary software, you now got the cookbook to make the software alive within your own system landscape. SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment and the Enterprise Services Repository should be successfully installed and configured. The stage is therewith ultimately set to start your enterprise service enabement initiative. Get the foundation done, so that you can - with the next blog - start to provide your Enterprise Service.
