Industrial CO2 emissions are already regulated in many countries. For example, under the European Union Emission Trading Scheme a CO2 cap-and-trade model. Similar efforts are under way within the United States, current legislation is being debated at both the state and federal levels. SAP Research started the Green 2.0 initiative looking into next generation topics in environmental management software and the underlying environmental economics. The Project Footprint is focused on tracking carbon footprint information across the entire supply and delivery chain of goods and services. This topic currently generates interest in the retail and the consumer products sectors following announcements on the introduction of carbon labels by Wal-Mart, Tesco and others. This Webcast will provide a more detailed description of the problem space, the state of the art, and outline the approach taken by SAP Research.
