Sometimes, one needs to diagnose an installation to be able to tell an installation issue from a product bug. SAPSetup supplies you with a tool called NWCheckWorkstation.exe that helps you perform this task.

Where to find NWCheckWorkstation.exe:

This tool can be found on the SETUP folder of your Installation Server, SAP front-end software CD / DVD / download and in the Workstation at the following location: %ProgramFiles%SAPSAPSetupSetup.

Starting from the Installation Server or CD may have advantages if that location holds a better version.

Prerequisites:

SAP front-end software  installed using NetWeaver SAPSetup on a Windows workstation.

Process:
  1. Start NWCheckWorkstation.exe on the Workstation from any of the above mentioned locations.
  2. Follow the wizard.
  3. You will be presented with a report that states the health of the software installation.
  4. If errors are detected, a report generated will be viewable in the browser and will contain a list of missing files, keys, etc.
Found errors that need to be reported to SAP. What to do?

At the end of the above wizard, you will also have the option to create diagnostic information (default is ON). This information needs to be sent to SAP Primary Support when reporting an installation bug.

This information collected in a CAB file holds SAPSetup log files and error information, and a copy of the workstation's installation database. Our Primary Support colleagues analyze this information and can either help you out immediately or use it to redirect the issue to the relevant development teams.
