It’s that time of the year again, where there are more important things, and one can forget about SAP, computers and other geeky stuff. So – this is not going to be a technical or Grumpy subject. Instead, just like A Christmas Carol, I want to share a recipe with you. This time it’s a more traditional one: Christmas stollen. Don’t despair, it isn’t that difficult to make and doesn’t take much time to make either.

  • 100g eggs
  •
  • 100g egg yolks
  •
  • 130g sugar
  •
  • 100g flour
  •
  • 8 table spoons raspberry jam
  •
  • 0,5l cream
  •
  • cocoa powder
  •
  • mint
  •
  • pink pepper

 It's a 10 steps recipe:

  1. Beat the eggs, egg yolks and 120g sugar into a foamy, somewhat viscous mass.
  2.
  3. Whisk the flour into that substance.
  4.
  5. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper or baking paper. Definitely don’t grease it.
  6.
  7. Spread the mixture out over the baking tray.
  8.
  9. Let it bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
  10.
  11. Take the pastry out and lay it over a wet (clean) towel and let it cool just a little bit.
  12.
  13. Spread the jam on the cake while it’s still warm.
  14.
  15. Roll the cake up into a log and let the cake cool down completely.
  16.
  17. Whip the cream together with the rest of the sugar.
  18.
  19. Cover the cake with the cream and decorate further with the cocoa powder, mint and pink pepper.

If this is not geeky enough for you, you might want to try out Craig’s Monkey Bread as a side dish for your turkey, goose or whatever.

Having said this, like the year before, 2006 was yet another exciting SDN year. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I did. Don't forget to post what you've liked the most in Re: Best Of 2006 ... forum thread. Only 12 replies have been posted so far. If you want to prevent this from turning into yet another – since I need to repeat myself – very venomous Grumpy, you definitely need to add your comments. It’s all in your hands.

Concluding, I want to wish you all a good holiday and I hope to see you again next year for another fruitful SDN year! Or in the words of a local stand up comedian: “And remember, you make me all completely … chacha. Bye, bye, ‘till the next time.”. When you like the more international touch, here's a message from 2 little elves.
