SDN in it's continuing efforts to support the various Scripting Communities of the world has just added a new "Getting Started with Ruby/Ruby on Rails" page to it's repository of information. For those of you unsure about what "Ruby" is, I picked up this little definition from Wikipedia.
Ruby is a reflective, object-oriented programming language. It combines syntax inspired by Perl with Smalltalk-like object-oriented features, and also shares some features with Python, Lisp, Dylan and CLU. Ruby is a single-pass interpreted language. Its main implementation is free software distributed under an open-source license. The language was created by Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto, who started working on Ruby on February 24, 1993, and released it to the public in 1995. "Ruby" was named after a colleague's birthstone. As of June 2006, the latest stable version is 1.8.4. Ruby 1.9 (with some major changes) is also in development.
- Source WikiPedia We've also added more "topic" specific areas to the weblogs per request of some of the users, and are not far off from providing a "Ruby" specific forum - thanks in great part to Piers Harding and Gregor Wolf for there efforts in managing to get the Collaboration in The Community and opening even more doors of potential use. As we move forward towards SAP TechEd and SDN Day, excitement starts to build about RadRails joins SDN Day and the SDN Clubhouse in Amsterdam! being present in Amsterdam along with a steady flow of documents coming into the system , like the one recently from Vasil Bachvarov helping to pave the way for initially connecting your application to a SAP system. Not to mention blogs such as Piers' on Ruby on Rails with AJAX and SAP on Rails, and not on the skids are helping to set the way as things move forward, and of course Scripting in a Box v0.1 which provides a complete portable development environment consisting of all the pieces of the puzzle needed to get started! I expect we'll be seeing more and more interesting pieces of content pop up and around this topic and the other Scripting Languages in the near future and SDN welcomes all of it with open arms.
