Honestly I totally forgot how much effort it is to put an event together. I should have remembered from last year's SDN Meets Labs, but I guess the success of these two days just erased the memory of all that went into it.

I am convinced that the SDN Day

is going to be an amazing event and every day more things fall into place, like the news that Rich Heilman together with Thomas Jung will do an advanced ABAP session. But man one has to push to get it all going and to fit it into a small budget.

The vision again is to bring 300 SDNers: The Top Contributors and you and me who are just interested in what is going on in the SAP Eco system. Bring us together under one roof for a day and enable us to get to know each other better and to work on common goals and challenges.

Most of the  morning will be spent with networking sessions. Almost a year ago I went to a BrainJam unconference where they took a page from speed dating and gave everyone about 5 minutes with every other participant to exchange personal background and current ideas or challenges. It was really great to get to know so many people even though only on a 5 minute level. It often happened that you would say: "Oh so you are working on xyz, you have to talk to the guy over there, he has done a similar thing and can probably give you some tips."

After a while it was a bit repetitive to tell one's own story over and over again. This is why we are going to do it differently at the SDN Day. You will have 20 minute sessions with up to 6 people at one table, so you tell your story only once every 20 minutes and get to know 5 other people in the same time. It will spark many lively discussions and ideas for BOF sessions that can be held later in the afternoon.

Actually I wanted to do these sessions at the internal DKOM (Developer Kick Off Meeting) this year too, but it was too far out for them, or more likely I just wasn't convincing enough. I am a bit miffed about the missed opportunity to get to know 20 new colleagues.

More and more of these Unconferences are springing up confirming the validity of this model. Somehow I don't get out as much, otherwise I would have joined them for their Mashup Camp.

We will have room in our schedule for the BOFs derived from the morning networking sessions.

We also have some very interesting sessions secured already:

- As mentioned before ABAP Titans* Rich Heilman *and Thomas Jung

will do a SDN Days Sessions: Advertise Your Proposal! session.

- As prolific as always Thomas Jung is also offering a MDM BOF session: *MDM Roundtable discussion.Session presenters get free entry to the SDN Day, please fill out this form or send it to sdnday@gmail.com, include title, description, which SDN Day (Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Bangalore and/or) and your phone number. Thanks.

There will be T-Shirts with the slogan of the day: I made the SDN Day as in I made it there, but even more important, as in I actively participated and did my part to make  the inaugural SDN Day '06 the best event ever. Period

See you all there.
