The Portal Content Studio has been revamped to make it easier to work with portal objects, especially when copying, moving and deleting objects.
Wizard-Based Cut, Copy, Delete
A new wizard helps content administrators when they want to copy, move or delete an object in the Portal Catalog. The wizard makes sure you can perform the action -- for example, it makes sure the object is not locked -- and then guides you through the process.
Among the improvements:
- You can quickly view locked objects and their owners.
- You can quickly view dependent objects.
- A progress bar is displayed until the action is completed.
- Error handling is improved.
- All relevant objects (including external dependencies) are locked while the action is performed.
For example, if you copy and then paste an object, you will get the following:
If everything is OK, you get a confirmation screen.
When copying, moving or deleting portal objects, you are told whether the action can be performed, based on the following:
Object Locking: You cannot perform an action if the object is locked, for example, because another administrator has opened it for editing.
Permissions: You must have the required permissions for performing the action.
Hidden Objects: For example, iViews may exist in a folder but may not be viewable in the System Landscape Editor. If you try to delete the folder, you are warned that there are iViews in the folder.
As an example, if another administration starts to edit an object when you try to delete it, you will get a warning message that the object is locked. A button is displayed that lets you view all locked objects and who has locked each one.
Before, you were just told the object was locked but you -- as a content administrator -- had no way to know who had locked the object.
Other advantages?
Before, if an action failed in the middle, you could be left with problems -- like some objects changed and some not. Now, the portal can automatically roll back the action in case of a failure and no damage is done to the Portal Catalog.
Also, before, when there was a problem, you were simply told and that was that. Now, you are given a choice of what to do. For example, if an object you want to move has dependencies, you are told about the dependencies and you can then roll back the action or proceed, updating the dependent objects, too.
Changing Object ID
The popup menu for each object in the Portal Catalog now includes the Change ID menu item, which lets you easily change the name, object ID and object ID prefix for portal objects and folders.
The Change ID wizard is displayed, which allows you to change the attributes of the object.
The change has the following advantages:
- All external dependencies are updated to point to the new ID.
- Objects in the changed object (like iViews and pages in a workset) are also updated to reflect the modified ID.
- You can choose which objects in a selected object/folder are changed (for ID prefix only).
