No one likes to get spam, so we set up the forum subscriptions or watches, as they are called now, very cautiously.
If you are in a forum and click on the "watch this" button, this forum will be added to your watch list. No e-mails will be sent.
Your watchlist is located in your control panel. 
If you don't want to scroll down the ever expanding list of forums to see whether the ones that you are interested in have a new post, you just subscribe to them. The "Watches" tab in your control panel will list them all neatly and you can see at one glance which have changed since your last visit by the red dot 
in front of them.
You can take it a step further, if you want to get every forum post sent to your inbox. Select "Email updates" next to the forum that you want to follow.
If you don't care about the watch list, but rather want all forum posts that you are interested in delivered to your inbox, then you select: "Notify me by email of watch updates" on the general settings tab of the control panel.
From then on every post of a forum that you select to watch, will be e-mailed to you.
