I'm often asked about how to add icons to the iView tray (header area) or do other things like provide help or feedback functionality for an iView. With EP5, the typical solution was to modify an ASP file or two to include the required icons and Javascript calls to support the functions. The problem here was that any hotfix or service pack could potentially wipe out your modifications. With EP5 you could also end up with a rather cluttered look with the minimize, maximize, personalize, help, feedback, and other associated icons in the iView tray.

When we were designing EP6, we considered the EP5 approach and wanted to avoid the same situation, so an open API was developed to allow iViews to dynamically add any features they need to support to the iView Tray option menu. We also added API calls to support personalization, minimize, refresh, etc.

If you want to take advantage of this new feature, read the article I just posted regarding the new API calls.

There are also some really cool page builder features on the server side too. You can build dynamic pages REALLY EASY now! I'll try to follow up with a sister article on using the PageBuilder API. But it'll have to wait until after vacation...

Happy Thanksgiving (for those of you in the US),
