Those of you following the blog posts here on SCN around the SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP) know that SAP has been investing a lot in opening up the platform more and more.
Starting with SAP'S founding and platinum membership in the Cloud Foundry foundation a great journey began.
In my last blog post around the continuous evolution on SAP HANA Cloud Platform SAP's OpenStack and Cloud Foundry I've described SAP's strategy for that journey.
Today we've reached another milestone by providing SAP HANA Cloud Platform starter edition for Cloud Foundry services (beta).
What is the beta good for?
Customers and partners have been asking for additional runtimes and additional deployment models on SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
With this beta SAP wants to give developers a chance to get familiar with development on a Cloud Foundry based architecture and how to use the tools and services on HCP.
What is included in the beta offering?
The starter edition will let you use the Cloud Foundry buildpacks so you can push applications of various types like Java, Node.JS, Go, PHP, Pyhton, etc..
In case you want to install custom buildpacks you can install them as well using the standard Cloud Foundry APIs.
With the beta offering you get the following backing services: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ and Redis.
The beta is - of course - for non-productive and non-commercial use only.
Who can use the beta and how to participate in it?
The beta is targeting individuals who want to try out the HCP starter edition for Cloud Foundry services (see terms of use).
As an individual developer you can subscribe to the beta via the corresponding package on the YaaS.io market place or via the cockpit of your free developer account by looking-up the service under the "Services" tab.
The time period for the beta and as well the list of services you can use are part of the package description.
Once you've setup everything as described in the Getting Started section of the documentation, you will get a so called organization (org) and a space for your user (orgs and spaces are placeholders in the Cloud Foundry terminology). Your space is the location where you can push your applications to.
What can you do with the beta?
You can use the beta to get familiar with the Cloud Foundry terminology, the corresponding tools and how this is provided to you via HCP.
You'll also be able to use the backing services with the Cloud Foundry services on HCP.

SAP provides you with tutorials on the official documentation page for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, starter edition for Cloud Foundry servi.... Get your first tutorials from there and try out how HCP provides Cloud Foundry services to you.
In the documentation you can also follow the steps in the Getting Started section for your first steps.

The first place to go is to use the official documentation for the beta. In case you don't find answers to your questions there, please post a question into the SCN forum of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
In case you have issues inside YaaS.io, you should post your question into the YaaS expert forum for SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
