Super Bowl 50 will be the most technologically advanced Super Bowl to date. There will be 5,000 local Host Committee volunteers awaiting over one million excited visitors, ready to immerse themselves in technology at the Fan Energy Zone in downtown San Francisco. This will lead up to an unforgettable 50th anniversary game at the state-of-the-art Levi’s Stadium.

An event of this magnitude requires detailed planning and the right team to pull it off. Thousands of local volunteers will ensure Bay Area visitors have the chance to enjoy all that Super Bowl City has to offer. To prepare the volunteers, the Host Committee turned to SAP to develop the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee Volunteer app. It will help volunteers manage their schedules, take part in virtual training sessions, access local maps and communicate in real-time.

“The Host Committee Volunteer app will be the go-to tool that ensures our volunteer team is connected, supported and engaged,” said Keith Bruce, CEO of this year’s Host Committee. This streamlined connection for volunteers will result in a more efficient, adaptable and exciting experience for all. The volunteers will be armed with knowledge around event locations, knowledge around local amenities, tips and tricks on the latest interactive gaming offered, and much more.

Through the app, volunteers can complete an assortment of tasks:

  • In the event that one or more volunteers do not show up to their shifts in the Fan Energy Zone on time, the App’s schedule management capabilities will notify the Host Committee through real-time beacon technology to implement a contingency plan and ensure there are enough volunteers on site to help fans.

  • Some volunteers may not be as well-versed in the games at the Fan Energy Zone or local Bay Area attractions as others, so the app offers virtual training sessions and access to local maps and event information to ensure each volunteer is an expert within their designated role.

  • If a volunteer is supposed to be on a shift, is going to be late for a shift, or has any questions for other volunteers, they are able to communicate with others directly through the app.

  • If the Host Committee needs to inform volunteers of any urgent news or updates, they are also able to use the application to quickly communicate with the thousands of volunteers.

According to Bruce, the SAP app allows the Host Committee “to leverage technology that not only provides a powerful solution for operations, but also gives unique insights to provide the best experience possible for the volunteers.” Simplifying operations with the power of SAP HANA is making for the most interactive Super Bowl experience of its time, bringing guests and volunteers even closer to the action leading up to the big game!
