Resource management has recently introduced some new features to enhance the staffing process:

Highlights:

  • Improved matching using skill proficiencies and candidate profiles

  • Enhanced team utilization view showing staffing information

  • Daily effort distribution option for more granular requesting and assigning of team members

Improved matching using skill proficiencies and candidate profiles

The resource management scenario now offers you the capability to define what level of skill proficiency is needed in a resource request. When searching for matching resources, the system now compares the requested skills and proficiency levels against those that candidates have maintained in their profiles. This allows the resource manager to identify who has the required expertise while also identifying alternative candidates who are overqualified or underqualified.

The following screen shows how a project manager can define what skill proficiency is needed for a resource request:

Team members can maintain skill proficiencies in their profile directly:

The matching resources capability now provides more accurate recommendations by checking not only for matching skills, but also for required proficiency levels.

From the list of matching resources, the resource manager can access a candidate’s profile to get more insights about the person’s project experience and to decide whether they can be assigned to the request.

Enhanced team utilization view showing staffing information

The View Resource Utilization app allows the resource manager to identify conflicts such as overbooking or underbooking of resources for a specific period. Now the resource manager can also drill down into the details of the utilization of each resource and view a list of a resource’s assignments and the number of hours assigned to that resource for the  period of interest.

Additionally, the resource manager can navigate into a resource request and change the assignments. Possible changes are:

  • Shift the assignment start and end date

  • Edit the number of assigned hours

  • Unassign a resource

  • Assign a new resource to the request

This capability makes it even easier to maintain transparency of the team utilization and to solve staffing conflicts.

Daily effort distribution option for more granular requesting and assigning of team members

Some activities can require resources to be available on specific days. For example, workshops to take place on Thursday and Friday, support to be available on Monday and Wednesday, or any other requested activities that must occur on specific days within a certain period.

The Manage Resource Requests app now offers project managers the option to switch to a daily effort distribution and define the exact days when resources are required.

When a daily effort distribution is defined for a resource request, the availability matching considers the daily availability of each candidate in order to determine the best match for the resource request.

The resource manager can then staff the resource request exactly as defined by the daily distribution by using the “quick assign” option.
