If you want to reach your customers, you have to meet them where they spend a lot of time.  Average mobile users reach for their smartphones more than 1,500 times per week, making mobile devices a great place to reach customers -- and employees.

HR technology tries to engage employees where they spend a lot of time -- on their mobile devices -- via tools that foster collaboration, and make cumbersome HR tasks a breeze.

So SuccessFactors Mobile has added user-friendly features, such as easy deployment, state-of-the-art data security and free usage with a SuccessFactors subscription. The end goal is to increase employee engagement -- and save users money.

“The cost of low employee engagement is really substantial,” SuccessFactors’ kai.petzelt said at SuccessConnect 2015 on Tuesday, citing as much as $550 billion lost each year to the U.S. economy from worker disengagement. Employee turnover costs the U.S. another $11 billion annually.

This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Personnel Tool

More than an app for vacation requests and performance ratings, SuccessFactors Mobile is an intuitive collaboration and management solution with an SAP Fiori-type user interface. It facilitates teamwork, which boosts productivity.

Features discussed Tuesday at a SuccessFactors Mobile roadmap session at SuccessConnect include:

  • Approvals: Displays all of a request’s relevant information, making it faster and easier for managers to approve.
  • Touchbase: Lets employees make notes for colleagues immediately after ideas pop into their heads -- and before they’re forgotten.
  • Request Time Off: In addition to generating the leave request, this tool shows users their team calendar; let’s them block out their own calendar; and notifies specific contacts of the user’s absence -- quickly, easily and all within the same tool.

“That’s the mobile mentality,” SuccessFactors’ ingrid.duquenoy-bernaudin said. “You don’t have to spend 10 minutes doing what you’re doing; you can do it in 10 seconds, and be done with it.”

Helping People Help Themselves

But it’s not all wine and roses for some organizations.

“Knowing the pervasive adoption of mobile devices worldwide, you would think CHROs are jumping on the opportunity to make their processes -- at a minimum, recruiting, hiring and onboarding -- mobile-enabled,” Business 2 Community recently noted. “Surprisingly, this is not the case.”

But SuccessFactors Mobile could change that with its engaging social-network style that may entice organizations HR part of people’s daily work. It’s part of SuccessFactors’ plan to connect its products for better HR self-service.

“If you can standardize and automate and socially automate your process, your manual processes melt away,” SuccessFactors President of HR Line of Business Mike Ettling said during his keynote address at SuccessConnect on Tuesday. “You can focus on solving real problems and less on admin issues.”

Reaching Out

Within the next 12 months, workers and managers using SuccessFactors Mobile could be starting and finishing development plans, as well as creating and updating goals -- and they’d do so on their smartphone, tablet or both. Yep, you can switch devices in the middle of a task.

You could also knock out those pesky HR chores -- what Bernaudin called “15-second tasks” -- that never seem worth logging in and sorting on a computer. But they are totally worth doing on your phone in a waiting room.

And that’s where your organization will reach you.
