I and SAP colleagues supported the event "SAP HANA Cloud Platform Innovation Day in Okinawa" on the last Saturday. (17th of July, 2015)

As we know, we have a challenge for expanding SCN to APJ and the local communities.

Let me share the event and the background information.

The event was organized by Lexues who is an IT service provider

based in Okinawa located south part of Japan. Lexues has deep

"Technology" knowledge, variety of unique "Talented staffs" and

supports "Local" business/communities.

The purpose of this event is developing talented IT engineers

who can contribute international business from Okinawa.

About 40 IT engineers (from teenage high school students

to senior software engineers) joined this event.

Agenda:

10:00 SAP HANA Cloud Platform services

11:00 Power of HANA

12:00 Networking lunch

13:30 SAPUI5

14:00 Hands-on: developing apps with SAP Web IDE on HCP

15:00 Hands-on: Creating HANA tables on HCP

16:00 Hands-on: Developing with HANA XS on HCP

I see several shifts from traditional business.

  • From Offshore development to Nearshore development

Offshore development in China or India is getting high cost and Nearshore development is one of option now.

  • UX/UI developers take important role

Like Fiori UX, UX is an important element of development now.

  • No geographic boundary and unlimited innovative ideas

Cloud has removed geographic boundary. Everyone can take opportunities for building innovations with HANA.

We still have language barrier for English in Japan. The hybrid model that we support initial workshops in Japanese and they can get advanced info from SCN in English is the best practice for managing communities in Japan.

I really enjoyed having hands-on workshop with them. I see their passions for learning and believe innovative ideas will com from Okinawa.

The next step is organizing SAP Inside Track in Tokyo. More to come.
