SAP HANA Cloud Portal Developer Challenge: Tailored apps for HCM

As Part of the SAP HANA Cloud Portal Developer Challenge 2015 I have gone through the cloud tools provided by SAP and developed a prototype product using SAP Web IDE to develop two UI5 applications, GIT Repository to deploy the applications in the Hana Cloud Platform, Fiori Launchpad to register the applications and UI Theme designer to brand and style the site.

As part of the Launchpad Configuration, I basically created three groups.

• External websites that allows the user to navigate to another websites and check feeds.
• Global Performance Management
• Employee Direct Access

Regarding the UI Theme Designer, I mainly changed the background and image and branded the site with black and light colors.

Performance Management Contribute Feedback Application

The FIORI app Contribute Feedback is part of the Performance Management module in SAP HCM and completely bespoke. This application enables the users considered as appraisers in the performance management to log on and see all the employees who have requested feedback from them. The appraiser can access the document reads some guidelines, access external wiki pages, rate the Appraisee for each skill and type a comment and also upload files . Additionally The document can be printed, saved and submitted.

People Profile Application

The second application is an idea of improvement for the Standard Fiori app People Profile as the standard app only displays the personal information and does not allow the user to change the data. The application I have developed would be a Fiori version of the Webdynpro ABAP Personal Profile with the look and feel and also the UX design pattern of the standard Fiori app People Profile.

The Custom application I have developed looks like this.

In the Overview Screen on the top hand side we can see the employee picture along with name and position details. Right below we can also see the navigation menu for the information available to be maintained. As the user clicks on the link the app navigates to the Area where the information is presented.

This application is driven by the backend configuration for each Infotype and provides the operations the user can perform. For instance, for Address Information the user is only allowed to add Secondary address or Foreign Address. For Permanent address the user is not allowed to delete, only change and for Emergency Address it can be changed or deleted.

When the user navigates to the detail screen the fields are dynamically displayed based on the information selected in the overview screen. To demonstrate that the user has decided to change the Permanent Address and the detail screen would look like as follows.

As a Result the SAP HANA Cloud Platform turned out to be very powerful and productive. I have used them since then and I`m very pleased. I believe that is the future for SAP web and cloud platform and expect soon more and more people start using that.
