At openSAP, we have just reached 500,000 course enrollments on our platform, delivering free Enterprise MOOCs to anyone in the world interested in learning about SAP’s innovative solutions. To celebrate we planned to have a team get together. Around the same time, we heard that SAP donated €150,000 to Doctors Without Borders in a bid to help fight the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leon, Guinea, and Liberia. It was a topic of conversation throughout the office and, motivated by this gesture, we started to think what we can do to help make a difference and improve people’s lives. And, as we offer knowledge in the form of MOOCs (and academic MOOCs were originally planned to bring education to those who could not afford to attend a university), we decided we’d raise money for Computer Aid International along with Doctors without Borders.

As individuals we could just donate online but as a group, we could create an event and raise some much needed funds. We organized a cake sale and coffee morning where colleagues brought delicious baked goods to the office (our team has hidden talents!) and asked other colleagues in the office to donate for their enjoyment of the baked goodies and coffee or tea too!

As you can see from the photos, the team had a lot of fun getting together while helping others!

We had so much fun, we decided to invite our users to do something similar in their offices. openSAP has partnered with Ammado, the global online donation and fundraising tool provider, to make it easier for our users to help make a difference to people who need it most across the globe. If you’d like to get involved, just get together with some colleagues, have some fun, and invite people to donate. It doesn’t have to be a cake sale; the ideas for fundraisers are endless. Here are just a few!

  • Table quiz at lunch
  • Casual day (if you work in a formal environment)
  • or anything else!

Once you’ve had your fun event, you can go directly to openSAP and use the Ammado widget to donate the funds raised. If you work in a home office environment, you could substitute your coffee in the café down the road with a homemade coffee and donate the money you’ve saved to the charity. Your donations will be split equally between the following charities:

Computer Aid International:

Computer Aid International’s vision is for a world where rich and poor have equal access to ICT.

Computer Aided International principles and values are to empower poor and disadvantaged communities, focus on long-term sustainable development in the poorest countries of the world, work in partnership with other organizations, and to provide affordable and environmentally sustainable ICT solutions.

Doctors without borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres:

In some 70 countries around the world, MSF saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most—in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crisis situations. Many contexts call for a rapid response employing specialized medical and logistical help, but we also run longer-term projects designed to tackle health crises and support people who cannot otherwise access health care. They do so irrespective of race, religion, creed, or political convictions.

Donations are completely voluntary and can be made anonymously. To complete your donation*, all you need to do is go to the openSAP website and enter your donation details on our temporary widget. Your donations will be collected by Ammado and directly to the non-profit organizations. Our campaign runs until January 15.

Let’s join together to reflect and give thanks for everything we have and as a global community, support these worthy causes. If you’d like to share your event story and pictures, feel free to use our openSAP space on SCN!

Thank you to our 170,000 users who enjoy our courses.

We are so excited to have reached 500,000 course enrollments – here’s to the next 500,000!
