Last week was all about Lumira - see Experiencing Week 2 OpenSAP SAP BI Clients Course and this week it is all about Design Studio.

I confess, I spent most of today doing the actual exercises on the SAP Cloud Appliance Library (CAL)  or SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud / Cloud Appliance Library

There was so much covered and so much to learn.  If you are interested in learning about Design Studio, I encourage you to enroll in the course BI Clients and Applications on SAP HANA - James Rapp, Foroohar Rafiei and Harjeet Judge

In the first exercise you create a calculation view in HANA using SQL Script to obtain the ranking.  I had no issue initially doing this.

However, I followed the exercises completely and managed to get my HANA account locked out for 24 hours when trying to access the HANA calc view through the BI Platform.  I saw several posts here on SCN how to fix that, but I couldn't follow it.

I ended up terminating my CAL instance and spinning up a new instance, and re-doing exercise 1 again, but with a change; I logged on to the CMC first to change the password on the OLAP HANA connection and then proceeded to Design Studio on the BI Platform.  To avoid my mistake, I recommend you do this.

One thing you do during the exercises is change the CSS colors using HEX.  First my tree map wasn't displaying any values; I closed Design Studio and re-opened it and it seemed to be working again (a relief)

In the above the three graphs all point to EMEA but to get through the exercises and concepts I let them be EMEA, America and APJ.

Just as I am wiped out from all the exercises, the next exercise shows us how to incorporate the UI5 controls (the Up arrow) in Design Studio - see Icon Explorer

In the exercises james.rapp praises mike.howles4 for Design Studio 1.2/1.3 SDK - Design Studio Utility Pack and his SCN contributions and Design Studio 1.2/1.3 - SAP Fonts Usage for Icons which we actually do in one of the exercises.

There is a whole exercise on scripting, which is really cutting and pasting from the Adobe exercise file; in the "I like I wish" I need to remember to suggest having the scripts on the CAL instance for easier cutting and pasting.

In the last exercise, we learn how to do dynamic visibility in Design Studio as shown above.

The final part of the exercise is adding a profiling parameter at the end of your application to check performance as shown above.

I still feel I have more to learn but this week I learned a great deal about Design Studio and HANA SQL Scripting.  You can still sign up for the course at BI Clients and Applications on SAP HANA

Although not covered in the exercises, SDK's are reviewed, with a great deal of praise to the SCN contributors.
