ASUG had this webcast today with SAP's Jie Deng.  The same legal disclaimer applies that things in the future are subject to change.

First, some positioning of Design Studio by SAP:

Design Studio premium alternative to BEx WAD

Now SAP is positioning Design Studio and Lumira as ad hoc analysis on BW

Figure 2: Source: SAP

Design Studio is designed for the corporate dashboard, IT professionals or power users create and end users consume enterprise wide

Lumira is for ad hoc use case

Coming in the future is more interoperability between Design Studio & Lumira

Figure 3 covers Design Studio 1.4 features

Design Studio 1.4 is targeting GA end of November

Design Studio 1.4 can access data from BW, HANA, ESP, universe

It deploys on BIP, BW, HANA Platform to build analytical apps and dashboards

It will provide embedded BI and Fiori integration – for sFIN customer

Figure 6 shows the drag and drop (covered in a demo during the webcast), the context menu and the new components.

Context menu will be available to do the RRI; define a jump target, RSBBS, jump from Design Studio to a SAP transaction, another query, or BEx Web Template

Figure 8 shows global script functions are coming in 1.4.  Today you  have 10 rows of coding that are needed in multiple places.   In current version define button, define 10 rows, and once need to call – only call button….but not convenient.  In 1.4 define global script functions will be available to (as an example) define 10 rows as one function with an input parameter

Figure 9 shows multi language support text element translated supported in Design Studio 1.4

Figure 10: Source: SAP

Figure 10 explains and shows fragment bookmarking

Figure 11: Source: SAP

Online composition to allow the end user can save bookmark as a fragment, this part of bookmark can be saved as a gallery and the user can do a drag and drop from gallery to their own applications

More to come when I can.
