Transportation disasters and chemical plant explosions in recent years have highlighted the importance of EH&S solutions in the Chemical Industry. Traditionally these solutions allowed companies to comply with local & global regulations (e.g. OSHA, REACH) and ensure the safety of employees, customers and the environment. However, in 2014 customers are looking for EH&S solutions to include functionalities that allow them to do so much more.
Recent reports by Gartner and Verdantix have analyzed the EH&S solution landscape and have created a list of companies that offer the most comprehensive solutions. Their winners: Enablon, IHS and SAP.
Not only did these reports highlight the best solution providers, but they also talked about some key customer trends:
- 50% stated annual spending on EH&S will increase by at least 25% by 2015 (Verdantix)
- 60% wanted EH&S solutions to include Supply Chain and Sustainability (Verdantix)
- 67% look for an industry specific track records when purchasing EH&S Solutions (Verdantix)
*Verdantix data came from 15 buyers representing firms with over $1 Billion in revenue that were asked 115 Questions.
Other key trends post-2013 included the need for scalability and real-time bi-directional communication between equipment and sensors to enable immediate responses.
