This year I'm going to SAP Teched Las Vegas.  I'm excited to be going, but I also admit I want chance to get a third hands-on workshop.  So I wanted to mention the sessions at Teched that will make me attempt to "run" past you to get a seat.  I will promise to make sure my path is clear before rushing off.  Due to the fact I'm traveling on Friday, I will focus Monday through Thursday.

Executive Keynote - Steve Lucas

I had the chance many years ago now to attend a blogger session with Steve Lucas at an SAP Event held locally in St. Louis, MO after he gave a very interesting key note.   I found the questions raised and explanations provided by him at the larger picture level were definitely worth the time and the conversation.  I look forward again to listening, although with my flight schedule and being on central time It will be a challenge to make the event and eat something so that I'm not starving by the end of the keynote.

Tuesday October 21st

UXP111 SAPUI5 Face-to-Face

It's an ASUG session content featuring SAP Mentor Graham Robinson talking on SAP UI5.  I have had the priviledge of talking to Graham at previous SAP events and look forward to his insight

TEC103 Suite on SAP HANA Strategy and Road Map

My company runs the SAP Business Suite and therefore it's important for me to understand how SAP is evolving the business suite on HANA.

5K Fun Run

I have run on the Las Vegas Strip before(just not at teched) and I want to do this again.  The 5K is much shorter than my run from Mirage to the "Las Vegas Sign"(that's a 10K).  I'm also what you will call a social runner, so the real debate will be the shirt selection for this event.

DEV212 - How to Architect ABAP Applications for SAP HANA

Besides the topic this session excites me because of the speaker Thorsten Franz.  It's rare to meet and listen to people with a such a unique and brilliant insight and Thorsten is one of those people.  I have met Thorsten at previous teched's and exchange a few technical e-mails with him.  I'm truly looking forward to his insights on this issue.

DemoJam

Honestly if you attend Teched and skip DemoJam you made a big mistake.  If we could only hold SAP product pitches to the standards of DemoJam the world would be a much better place.  My recommendation is arrive early for close up seat, and enjoy the show.

DEV204 Custom ABAP Code – Get Ready for SAP HANA!

DEV205 Building an End-to-End App from SAP HANA via ABAP to SAP Fiori

ABAP, HANA, and Fiori, oh my!

I'm going to have to pass on celebration night.  I'm sure for die-hard fans or people who were older in the 80's it's probably a great flashback.  Given that I have missed most of the concert the last two times I atteneded due to long dinners, it probably doesn't matter who is playing regardless  .

Other Activities

I doubt this will happen again, but you never know who you will see in Las Vegas @ Teched

Or this:

Tips for first time attendees

The Venetian|Palazzo Conference area can be quite pricey for food, beverages, snacks.  If you don't want to pay full price there is a Walgreens at the street level on the Palazzo side of the conference area close to Wynn.  You can find things here not marked up as much, but still more than back home.  Another must hit for bargain hunters is ABC Stores in the Las Vegas Fashion Mall.

You really need to wear comfortable shoes.  You will be walking a lot during the conference.  Update:  You also need to make sure you put enough time for walking between sessions.  Depending on the floor plan usage it can be a long walk from Level 5 to Level 1, even if you use the escalators.  You should also make sure you allow for "conversation time".  I have missed sessions from talking to people that I met.

You also need to make sure you get outside and see the Las Vegas Strip.
