On behalf of the global SAP Screen Personas product team, I am delighted to announce that SAP Screen Personas 3.0 has entered ramp-up. This is the long-awaited all-HTML version of SAP Screen Personas. SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is the most advanced SAP Screen Personas solution developed to date. It solidifies SAP Screen Personas’ position as the best-in-class personalization offering for SAP Dynpro Screens.

We have completey rebuilt the product from the ground up, leveraging what we have learned over the past 18 months from our existing customers. Now, SAP Screen Personas is part of the SAP GUI for HTML (Web GUI), so there is no separate Silverlight client.

We are releasing SAP Screen Personas 3.0 into ramp-up. “Ramp-up” means that the product is available for download to customers that meet the specific ramp-up criteria. By releasing SAP Screen Personas 3.0 to a carefully screened group of customers, we can ensure that the product meets SAP's performance, scalability, and quality targets when it becomes generally available.

For more information about the ramp-up in general, you can read “Demystifying SAP's Ramp-Up process”.

SAP Screen Personas 3.0 builds on what we have learned from many customer deployments.

Thank you to the dozens of customers that have provided constructive feedback and suggestions on how to improve the product. I expect many of you will see some of your ideas here.

Here are some details on what to expect from SAP Screen Personas 3.0.

What We Heard

What We Delivered

Improved performance

SAP Screen Personas improves usability, but sometimes the rendering performance does not meet our expectations.

The Web GUI currently leverages lazy loading, rendering information when it is required, rather than the pre-fetch approach of SAP Screen Personas 2.0. By integrating into the Web GUI, SAP Screen Personas 3.0 inherits this functionality.

We expect this to have a major impact on performance, especially when transactions contain large tables. For optimal performance, we continue to recommend using table variants to eliminate unused columns.

Enhanced scripting

The scripting is easy to use, but we need a more powerful engine.

To support more advanced users in SAP Screen Personas, we made the scripting engine even more powerful. Based on JavaScript, this includes looping, nested IF conditions, and logging capabilities.

We now maintain a script library independently of the buttons, so it will become much easier to reuse scripts across flavors. In addition, we are keeping the simple record/playback capabilities, but now this generates the JavaScript you need. People who had early access to this functionality during the customer validation phase were very excited about the new scripting capabilities.

Make editing more user friendly and dynamic

SAP Screen Personas is very easy to use, but, I need to do the same steps multiple times to make the screen look like what I want. Also, some of the more granular features such as setting an exact button size are hard to find.

While SAP Screen Personas has long had very rich functionality, many capabilities were exposed in the advanced properties window. Now, we display these functions in the menu to make it easier to deliver personalized screens.

For designers, we have added a global theming menu and copy/paste capabilities to make it easier to create a design once and reuse on multiple flavors or transactions.

Remove Silverlight dependency without losing functionality

We do not want to use Silverlight. This is old technology.

SAP Screen Personas 3.0 is now integrated into the Web GUI. This means a simpler architecture, no separate client application, and no more Silverlight dependency.

Of course, the business value of SAP Screen Personas remains the same.

  • Improve SAP adoption by making screens easier to use
  • Increase employee productivity by simplifying screens to reduce typing
  • Reduce training costs by making SAP ERP screens more intuitive
  • Enhance data quality by reducing free text entry
