Continuing the ASUG SAP TechEd && d-code meet the speaker series, I am pleased to introduce ASUG SAP TechEd && d-code speaker Dave Beldyk of DuPont. He is presenting session DMM 234 Eliminating UOM Rounding Issues – A Fresh Look at and Old Problem

I asked Dave the following questions:

What is your favorite hobby?

Hands down, my favorite hobby is turning wood. Whether making bowls, hollow forms, finials or even duck calls, I just love turning wood! I think it’s because it offers challenge in so many different ways. There is something about being able to conceptualize a finished piece and then turn (pun intended :smile: ) that vision into reality with my own two hands that I find very satisfying. For me wood turning is my way to escape and relax. (See picture below of one of his projects)

Why do you attend TechEd/d-code?

This is actually my first time attending TechEd/d-code, but I am really looking forward to it. I am so excited because I’ve talked to others who have attended previously and I understand TechEd/d-code to be one of the biggest gatherings of the very best and brightest technical resources the SAP world has to offer. I expect to find a mix of people who have either solved something challenging that they just can’t wait to tell the rest of the world about, or people who are trying to solve something challenging and are looking for that one little tip or trick to get them over the hump. Either way it sounds like a great collaborative experience, and I can’t wait to be a part of it!

Why should attendees attend your session?

Most of us who have been around SAP for any length of time have encountered unit of measure conversion rounding issues at one time or another. If you happen to be fortunate enough to be with a business with plants and customers that allow you to do most of your transactions in the base unit of measure, you should consider yourself lucky, and you can skip this session. But if you happen to be with one of many businesses who must satisfy customers in multiple industries and/or regions, each expecting to transact in a sales unit of their choosing, then I think this session can really help you. In this session you will learn exactly why and how rounding issues occur, and most importantly, how to prevent their occurrence. And in my experience “prevention” is a whole lot better than after-the-fact “correction”!
