It seems like everyone is claiming that the cloud is the way to go. Don’t believe me? Just google “Why the cloud?” and you’ll see countless blogs, articles, analysts, and providers touting the amazing agility, flexibility, and power of cloud computing. And most CIOs of companies of all sizes, industries, and regions are taking note. These executives view the cloud as a sound practice for simplifying IT infrastructure, innovating new and more efficient ways to work, and maximizing the full potential of the data their companies are collecting.

Beyond making basic infrastructure improvements, many CIOs are also looking to run their IT organizations like an internal service provider. To make this happen, a fundamental transformation in how they deliver IT services must happen. Now this concept may appear to be simple, but it’s really not. Even though an IT team is full of highly trained technologists, not everyone may know of the plethora of pitfalls and vendor-centric traps along the way.

When you vacation at an area that you’ve never visited before, do you go unprepared and without any help? Do you not use a GPS, map, nor tour guide? No! Of course not – unless you are someone who doesn’t mind the risk of spending too much money, getting lost and not seeing all the sights you want to see, or being without a hotel room for the night. And when it comes to running a business, CIOs don’t want to expose their IT systems to preventable risk – especially when migrating to the cloud.

Moving to the Cloud Should Not Be Navigated Alone

The shift to the cloud is not as simple as packaging up every piece of information housed in internal systems and shipping them off to a magical server managed by a provider. People are involved. Processes are affected. Employees of all levels depend on accessing corporate data of all kinds anytime, anywhere, on any device, and even in areas with limited connectivity to help the business adapt and innovate quickly to meet changing customer demands.

Because the cloud is all about flexibility and choice, there’s no single approach that’s best for all companies. It’s important that someone with a high-level of expertise in cloud computing listens to business specific needs and gets the inside track on information systems to help ensure the business is using the best mix of public cloud applications and services, private cloud managed services, and on-premise technology - that someone is SAP Services. Very few companies have an internal cloud expert at their disposal – rather most organizations need a third-party consultant who can provide the latest options and best practices in cloud computing.

Really, there’s no need for going to the cloud without a GPS, map, or guide. SAP Services helps our customers build a cloud strategy that is specifically made for their business.
