A job offer before graduation? Impressive. Possible? Yes – very possible.

Some undergraduates are obtaining extensive knowledge about SAP, and many of those students are offered jobs to join a company's SAP team even before they graduate.

One of the most rewarding experiences in my career has been recruiting, hiring, managing, and mentoring new talent – college recruits! There is something thrilling about the energy in the room when you spend time with competent, driven new talent. It is akin to the energy of a perfected, focused horse at the race gate, waiting for the starting bell.

Speaking of race horses, I read a terrific article recently about horse racing (yes, literally,…horse racing).

Excerpt: “…in horse racing, several different strategies can lead to the same result.”

Each strategy is linked to a couple of core principles: a) preparedness and training, and b) remaining embedded in the pack longer. The article explained results from a study about the speed of race horses.

Excerpt: “…faster average speed was achieved by competitors that remained in the cover of the pack for longer.”

Let’s examine these two core principles where it pertains to race horses. But, more importantly, let’s take it a step further, and relate these principles to you, and your future career!

Preparedness and Training

The typical “day in the life of a race horse” starts around 5:00 am, much like your education likely began at age 5. SAP hires top talent and I can tell you first-hand, as an experienced hiring manager of recent college grads, we are impressed by your education, extra-curricular activities, and more, and all of this provides evidence you have mostly prepared for the workforce.

Keywords: “mostly prepared” (but not wholly prepared)

Sorry, folks. You have worked so incredibly hard and you do deserve tons of respect for pulling those all-nighters, only to have your roommate mistake your 32-page research paper on Gaming Theory in Software Design for Databases for their recycle pile. Shredded. Gone forever? No – saved on hard drive. Nope – blue screen of death – serious computer crash. Unrecoverable! Unbelievable! Ah, if only I had used a Cloud solution (that’s an inside SAP joke – SAP is THE Cloud Company)!

It’s happened to all of us. Well, maybe not that precise scenario but you get the idea,… In all seriousness: well-deserved respect,…coming your way for years of that stuff!

But, what more could you do to be “better prepared”? And, by better, I mean “better, faster” than your competition?

One solution – SAP Learning Hub Student Edition– helps you to be better, faster and really, seriously, ultra prepared for success in the workplace. Before I provide the specifics on how it will better prepare you, let’s examine the second core principle: remaining in the pack for a longer period.

Remain in the Pack Longer; Be Embedded in the Pack

For race horses, being embedded in the pack for a longer period of time is a key contributor for their speed. For new talent, embedding oneself in the pack for longer can be likened, perhaps, to getting an advanced degree and staying in school longer, but that is not the only interpretation here.

SAP Learning Hub Student Edition provides valuable social learning opportunities so students are learning SAP among peers, experts, and are part of a larger learning ecosystem. One feature of the Learning Hub is Learning Rooms where you can join other learners, engage them, and gain the benefit of enhanced learning by being a part of the pack.

Your Challenge; Your Solution

“Of 1.4 million new computing jobs in the United States in 2018, more than half could go unfilled because candidates will not possess the sufficient education and qualifications.” – GSMA, 2012

The Solution: SAP Learning Hub Student Edition.
