This is part 2 of Latest News on Design Studio - ASUG Annual Conference Part 1 from last week's ASUG Annual Conference, co-located with SAPPHIRE NOW.

This part of the session mostly discusses interoperability between Design Studio and Lumira.  Note the usual legal disclaimer applies that things in the future are subject to change (Figure 1 from part 1 applies).

Figure 1 shows Design Studio is for designers while Lumira is for business analysts (and now decision makers too).

We first heard this message last year at conference but we are hearing more and more that HANA is the new target BI Platform.  Figure 2 is an update to Figure 3 from last year's Design Studio Updates at ASUG Annual Conference

More BI clients will be native to HANA, like SAP BusinessObjects Lumira and Design Studio currently are.

Figure 3 shows the Lumira Server, which is already GA and more information can be found at SAP BusinessObjects Lumira

Figure 4 is a preview of the new, not-yet released SAP BusinessObjects Lumira 1.17 desktop, showing you can connect Lumira to a BEx Query or an InfoProvider.  Today you can only connect to BW universes with Lumira.

Figure 5 shows that coming in a Design Studio SP you will be able to use the Lumira SDK in Design Studio and import Lumira boards into Design Studio (next Figure).

Figure 6 on the left shows the Lumira desktop visualization and on the right importing it into Design Studio.  So the workflow is your business user creates a visualization and but wants more updates than Lumira can provide, so you import the visualization to Design Studio.

Figure 7 shows the latest roadmap.  The midterm shows what is in the works for the next release OR the next 12-18 months.  The future has no timeline commitment.

Lastly, one of the reasons I wrote this blog was to support Your mission, should you decide to accept it... marilyn.prattmission to blog about the event.  I hope others will share their experiences as well.
