When you look up a dictionary to get the meaning of engineered, most probably you'll find such explanations:

1. To plan, construct, or manage as an engineer.

2. To alter or produce by methods of genetic engineering: "Researchers . . . compared insulin manufactured by bacteria genetically engineered with recombinant DNA techniques to the commercial insulin obtained from swine or cattle" (Fusion).

3. To plan, manage, and put through by skillful acts or contrivance; maneuver. ( http://www.thefreedictionary.com/engineered )

We do not need to alter or produce new methods in order to engineer SAP.

15 to 20 years ago, we thought that best way to show our expertise was covering all reaquirements of customers by using our ABAP development skills. Now I can undertand how poor we were.

We need to follow SAP's best practices where available, if not just follow SAP standard functionality and try to re-shape customer's demand. Yes I know, this sounds impossible but, we need to try. Because, most of the SAP support spendings is caused by tailer made, non-standart ABAP developments.

Finally implementing and using standart SAP functionality is very cheap in terms of TCO (total cost of ownership and operation).

This is engineered SAP.
