today's blog is a review of our first Codejam event in Grafenrheinfeld.
First of all, for all out there, who don't even know the name or just think where it is located some facts around it.
Grafenrheinfeld is a town (Ok ok, it is a village) located in Franconia, Germany. Round about 3,500 people live there and there is a SAP-Partner with around 500 employees. If you want to learn more about the hardfacts, just search the web. I don't want to advertise my company here.
The Codejam started at May 23, 2014 1 o’clock PM and took round about 7 hours. As mentioned in the header, motto of the day: The state-of-the-art coding with ABAP in Eclipse.
Our experts (thomasfiedler,Sebastian Wolf and Markus Lang) showed up at 11:30 AM and so I got a chance to talk about various things before the event started and we rechecked all the stuff.
Connection > check
Drinks > check (you know, water, juice and stuff like that, no cocktails :sad: )
Room temperature > check
Attendees > Fail…. oh, it’s too early, let’s go have lunch :lol:
After lunch the other attendees showed up and our ‘conference room’ become a developer-place :twisted:
In summary 00100010 developers crowded the room (Not all signed the list, so I'm not a 100% sure about the number).
The Codejam started with some basic instructions. Why SAP decided to start developing with Eclipse, what happens to SE80 (it doesn’t go away, I’m sorry :razz: ) and how the sprint backlog runs.
Afterwards we jumped into our exercises. How to use unit-tests with eclipse / refactoring and performance tuning. Performance-tuning was a major point at our event. Not just in ABAP, moreover how Eclipse will change the developing process. That was awesome and between everybody got the chance to ask questions.
The three experts did answer every single question and took a lot of time to discuss the decisions and why these were made.
At 4 o’clock pm the developer food arrived (It was a hard fight with my backoffice, but in the end I won :smile: )
A look into the faces proves that it was the right decision. After the break, we finished the last “official” exercise and we had good conversations and people networked.
Between the passages you see pictures made during the event and I just have to say thank you to a lot of people.
Thank you SAP for offering Codejams, attendees and Karin from our backoffice (It was her last event before facing new challenges and she made a wonderful job). Also thank you to the cleaning forces and the network-guys. Nobody recognized you that mean you made a perfect job.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon and I took a lot of impressions home. Hope you all enjoyed the event as I do and will be an attendee of future events.
