Following Announcement of SAP Portal and HANA Cloud Portal Gamification Movie Challenge I watched the following on YouTube:

Really it was a high level video, and because I watched an ASUG webcast recording yesterday by thomas.hensel2 I was already familiar with the high level topics.

I'll share some of my notes on the webcast below:

On the webcast, I learned SAP is heavily investing in the HANA Cloud Portal.

SAP is uses feedback from an ASUG  bi-weekly influence council. The feedback includes efforts of administration of NW technology stack including the portal

Other points:

  • 2.5 years ago started introduce cloud based services
  • 1.5 launched cloud-based portal to the market
  • Shift in market towards cloud solution, easier to consume, quicker to start with solutions
  • Mobility

The main drivers for cloud approach are as follows:

  • Lines of business need more flexibility for business web site – to reach customers, partners
  • An extranet to show order status and self service
  • Remove burden of IT for hardware maintenance
  • Give IT more time to work on content
  • Enabling lines of business
  • Onboarding new services
  • Business value of support website, city portal
  • Differentiator – provide integration layer embedding SAP and non-SAP content
  • Extending on premise scenarios
  • Reach out to external audience
  • Easy branding, consumption
  • Quick time for adoption
