As NFL coaches and teams continue to incorporate increasingly advanced data and statistics to help improve player performance, SAP is providing fans with an in depth look at the conversations around one of the biggest sporting events of the year. And there’s no more engaging time than during the days leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII.

Beginning Wednesday, January 29, the NFL.com Stats Zone with Insights from SAP will bring SAP’s technology to Super Bowl Boulevard in Times Square, with dynamic data visualizations that allows fans to monitor online discussions around key Super Bowl topics and provide a better understanding of how plays on the field effect conversations online.

SAP will display the volume and location of social conversations, tracking key Super Bowl XLVIII topics from which quarterback boasts a more passionate fan base to determining if fans want it to snow during the big game, all of which will be displayed in the bright lights of Times Square.

For fans that can’t make it to New York, they can keep up with the conversation right here in the NFL Fan Visualization section. An interactive map will display social conversations using an adjustable slider tool to track the conversation -- and how it shifts -- over time.

If a player returned a kick for a touchdown or a team forced a crucial turnover, fans will be able to see how the overall social conversation shifted in that team’s favor following the play. There are always a few plays that come to define a Super Bowl and SAP’s Social Media Analytics by NetBase will measure online social sentiment to determine which plays generated the biggest response from fans.

While the league, teams, coaches and players certainly have a need for smarter football, providing this technology will help fans to understand the larger social conversation, increase engagement and further connect them to the sport, teams and players they love.

As SAP analyzes the key Super Bowl XLVIII moments, we’ll see which topics actually move the national conversation. And we’ll see it all coming directly from the fans.
