Hi all,

2014 started great, as the SAP TechEd session ITM212 (How to Migrate ABAP-Based SAP Systems to SAP HANA) created by volker.zirkel and me (with the support of many other colleagues) got selected as Lecture of the Week of January 13th  ! So, it is a great honor to give you a rough overview of our session in this blog.

The lecture offers a jump start to the migration of an existing SAP ABAP system to SAP HANA - some of the highlights:

  • Get an idea of the relevant aspects that play a role when planning a migration project (such as appliance vs. tailored datacenter integration, custom code adjustments, test management) - including a sample project plan
  • Profit from an overview of available migration options - including an introduction to our new, single-step standard migration procedure Database Migration Option (DMO) of Software Update Manager (SUM), an overview of the classical migration approach (using software provisioning manager), and information about the transformation options offered by SAP Landscape Transformation
  • Downtime-minimization options
  • Demos of the migration procedures
  • Guidance how to choose the best option for your individual requirements - never offered before in such a way
  • Overview of available migration services
  • Long list of references

So, if you are interested in the migration to SAP HANA, you can use this lecture as starting point - although it is a 2h lecture, we think this is time well spent, as we received very positive feedback from all SAP TechEd locations.

If you were not able to attend, you can watch the recording of this lecture from Las Vegas here:

If you are interested in getting more information, check out our Software Logistics SCN space and especially our corresponding SAP HANA Migration page, providing more details, latest news, and updates. As the topic of migration still is quite dynamic (as we continue to work on improvements of both the DMO of SUM procedure and the classical migration), check out our SCN space for the latest updates.

Last but not least, I want to thank all the colleagues that contributed to this lecture and especially all the speakers in the different locations  !

Hope to see you latest at SAP TechEd 2014,

Volker + Boris
