Additional Restriction Options for the Business Role of Financial Controller

There is new enhancement to the business role Financial Controller. You can now add additional authorization restrictions to the Financial Controller.

We are listening to our customers’ voice for more detailed authorization control. Now you can restrict financial controller’s authorization by Controlling Area, Company Code, Plant and many others.

A new Authorization Object (AO) /S4PPM/PR1 has been introduced to provide additional restriction options for the business role of financial controller (SAP_BR_PROJ_FIN_CONTROLLER ).

It includes several new attributes in addition to those supported before: Controlling Area, Company Code, Responsible Cost Center, Profit Center, Plant, Project Profile, Project Type, Functional Area and Element Type (to specify, if relevant to project header or WBS element).

With these options, you have more flexible authorization control on your projects. For example, you want to limit project access for users according to their company code. You can realize it by adding authorization restrictions to users by company code.

You have the following benefits:

  • More flexibility for customers to control authorization based on users or roles.

  • Attributes like Company Code and Plant make it possible for location-based user access

You have now the following possibilities:

  • The new restriction options maintained in Authorization Object /S4PPM/PR1 will be active and with that it will have impact on users that have this role assigned

Enhanced Capabilities of the Revenue Recognition Key in the Billing WBS Element

A recognition key that is assigned to the revenue recognition method determines how the revenue recognition values are calculated. With the recognition key, you can determine the revenue recognition method for the project.

In projects with revenue, you can manually maintain the recognition key. On project level, you can maintain the key in the Project Control - Enterprise Projects app. On the level of billing WBS elements, you can maintain the key in the Project Planning app. You can select the recognition key from a drop-down list. It can also be automatically derived from a sales order item, when you assign a relevant sales order item to the WBS element.

With the help of the revenue recognition key, you can calculate project profitability early on starting from the initial phase of the project. You can choose suitable Recognition Key based on your business processes.

You have the following benefits:

  • Allows to calculate the profitability against the project during initial phase of the project

  • Option to choose suitable Recognition Key based on business processes

You have now the following possibilities:

  • Supports validation of determined Recognition Key from sales order line item.

  • Allows to save sales orders only when the determined Recognition Key matches the one in the WBS element

  • Once a sales order is assigned to a WBS element, the Recognition Key cannot be changed

  • The Recognition Key field cannot be blank once it is determined or assigned

  • Change of Recognition Key in billing WBS element is possible irrespective of actual cost postings and WIP (work-in-progress) postings

Cross-company Resource Planning for Resource Demands of Enterprise Projects (Release 2302.1)

Up until the previous release, when creating or maintaining a resource demand for an enterprise project, it was only possible to assign it to a cost center with the same company code as the responsible cost center of the related WBS element.

Now, a resource demand can be assigned to a cost center whose company code differs from that of the WBS element. This enables to carry out cross-company resource planning and assignment. Resources assigned to the demand will automatically be provided with a task to record their actual efforts in the Manage My Timesheet app once the demand has been requested.

You have the following benefits:

  • Possibility to carry out cross-company resource planning and assignment for resource demands of enterprise projects.

You have now the following possibilities:

  • Plan resource demand for a cost center whose company code differs from that of the receiving cost center maintained in the WBS element.

  • Assign resources from a cost center whose company code differs from that of the receiving cost center.

  • As an assigned resource, record efforts for cross-company demands using an automatically provided task in the Manage My Timesheet app

CDS View for Extracting WBS Element Hierarchy

Up to now, you could use CDS views Enterprise Project (I_EnterpriseProject) and Project Element (I_EnterpriseProjectElement) to retrieve master data of a project and its project elements and extract this data to external systems.

With the new CDS view Node of WBS Element Hierarchy (I_EntWBSElementHierNode), you can now also read and extract information about the hierarchical arrangement of project elements in enterprise projects and professional services projects.

Replication of Person Responsible in Project Controlling Object Master Data

In case of data replication using the ProjectControllingObject entity of the One Domain Model (ODM), you can use an additional field that represents a list of responsible persons of the project controlling object.

In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition, this field corresponds to the project manager of the parent project.

In SAP Master Data Integration (MDI), the workforce person UUID that relates to the corresponding business partner ID is used.

Read Project Definition and Milestones Using CDS View and API Entities for Project Elements

In previous releases, only the lower-level WBS elements of enterprise projects could be retrieved using the CDS view and API entities for project elements. Now, the following entities and views also enable you to read data of the project definition and milestones:

  • CDS view Enterprise Project Element (I_EnterpriseProjectElement)

  • Entity Project Element (A_EnterpriseProjectElement) of OData API Enterprise Project

  • Entity Enterprise Project Element – TP (I_EnterpriseProjectElementTP_3) of business object interface Enterprise Project that has been released for developer extensibility
